Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 12/12/10
I spent the last two days of the week on the water, the fish were grouped up and finding them was not real easy. We worked several patterns before we got a bite each day. The odd thing was when we tried to duplicate the pattern the next day the fish were not there. The daily change is really odd as one would expect a pattern to hold up in consecutive days of fishing.
The fish we did find were located on the edges of small creeks where there was room for them to move from 10 feet of water to 3 foot without much effort. I can't really say that the bait lead us to the fish as we saw very little bait movement anywhere on the lake. That also was odd as the bait played no role at all that we could tell in finding fish.
We fished a variety of different baits; with the most productive being swim baits, Punisher 3/8 oz silver shad colored spinner baits, and jerk baits. We fished several others baits and the most surprising was that we did not get a bite on rattle baits, as it is generally very productive in early winter.
This next week looks cold early with little warming coming as we get into next weekend, I have a couple of trips toward the end of the week and should see some movement as the warm suns comes back starting Thursday or so. As always we are approaching the winter solstice and it has always been the case that as we get past the shortest day of the year the fishing gets better every day.
