Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 12/19/10
With all the cold and ice and rain the days I spent on the water were pretty rewarding. I must say I was very surprised as I expected after the nasty weather in the early part of the week that the fish would be holding tight and not feeding much. The interesting part was that the water temperature was still in the mid 40's and I thought for sure we would see the water 4 to 6 degrees colder.
The key this past week was green grass, and there is still plenty of it. If you found green grass in 6 to 10 foot water there was active fish working around the edges of it. You had to fish slow and let your bait do the work but the reward was good. Most of our fish came on Tight-Line football jigs, Punisher Lure small silver shad spinner baits, rattle baits and jerk baits. Work your baits slow, cover the edges thoroughly and the fish will bite.
There's plenty of winter action to come, the winter is early yet and the best is yet to play out. The best news about winter fishing is the bigger fish are easier to catch and this week was no exception.
