Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 12/27/08
With the holidays falling in the middle of the week this past week I only managed one day on the water. I must say it was certainly challenging as the wind picked up to about 30 mph before we ended the day. The early part of the day proved to be very good.
We found fish stacked on the creek edges in several places before getting blown off the lake. I fished above BB Comer for most of that day and worked a couple of creek beds along Jones Creek and into 4-Pound Alley. The numbers were strong landing 26 fish and missing several more that we should have put in the boat. The challenging piece was trying to work the bait slow enough and keep close to the same area so you could stay on top of the fish. I believe if we could have stayed closer to our bites we would have had even a better day.
The first 10 or more fish were caught on jerk baits, but as the wind picked up we started throwing Punisher Spinner Baits and rattle baits and caught fish on all of them. We had a monster throw a rattle bait as we tried to net it, sure would have been nice to land that fish; other than that big fish most were keepers with nothing more than 3 pounds.
I'm booking for 2009 come fish with me the days are getting longer and the bite keeps getting better.
