Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 1/24/09
A few bites a day and frustrating days this past week on Guntersville. The bass were locked down didn't feed much and the week was full of frustration for me. There were some big fish caught by others but they also experienced long days with a few bites. These transition days where we go from deep cold to 60 degrees make for tough times and the bass just suspend and don't feed. We should see some change if the weather will just maintain some consistency over time.
I fished just about all ends of the lake this week, from Mud Creek to Browns Creek visiting a different section everyday. We caught fish but you spent a lot of time searching for that bite and when you found it there would be a few more and then you would search some more. Most of the week we fished rattle baits, Punisher Spinner Baits, jerk baits and Tight-Line jigs. The water temperature ranged from 38 degrees to 42 degrees and some of the back coves had ice in the shallow water.
The good news was that I fished with several FLW participants of the up-coming FLW event in February and most were just great folks, looking to pattern the lake find certain types of structure and then head to Florida for the FLW event down there. Hopefully by the time they return to the lake the fishing will have improved and they will have a great showing on Guntersville.
Great days are ahead and all should be well as we move through the month. February is generally one of the best months on the lake and I expect no different this year. I have days available all through the spring please call for details.
