Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 1/9/10
I only braved the cold one-day this past week; we have been into some of the coldest and nastiest days of the past 10 years and getting to a ramp was a challenge in itself. The one day I did get on the water I was pleasantly surprised, the fish were feeding in the mid part of the day, and I managed to put about 11 good fish in the boat. I fished only for about 4 hours and my day went something like this.
I spent the first hour looking for fish off the river channel when that didn't produce I moved to the back side of the channel for about 30 minutes, I only caught one fish; then as the sun warmed a little I headed to the mouths of the creeks around the edges of the grass and caught the rest of my fish in less than 5 feet of water. The bass were up feeding in shallow water around humps and points and in about 2 hours fishing a Mister Twister Comida I put 10 more bass in the boat with the biggest being around 5 pounds. The one fish I caught off the backside of the channel came on fishing jerk baits by moving it very slowly over the first break from 4 to 7 feet.
The year is young and the big fish will feed a lot over the next 2 months getting ready for the spawn, and there will be some great times on the water. I have days available, come fish with me let's find some of these big January bass together!
