Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 2/8/09
I only got on the water one day this past week as I still have been dealing with some personal issues from my wife having surgery. A little bit of what I may discuss is second hand because of that.
The early part of the week we dealt with severe cold and the fishing was very slow, and for those who got out dealt with tough conditions. The end of the week the weather has drastically changed to the better, but for me the Saturday bite was still tough with the water temperature down and the bass getting moving.
I fished the mid part of the lake working rattle baits, Tight-Line Jigs and Mister Twister Comida's. We started out working 10 to 15 foot of water with heavy rattle baits. Looking for grass lines and ledges to pull off from as I expected the bass to be holding off the edges. We found some fish, caught a few and missed a few, as the bites were extremely lethargic.
It became evident that we had to go to a slower presentation and caught a few on Tight-Line jigs by just letting them sit and shake on the edges off the grass. As the day warmed we found the bass moved up some and fished points with Mister Twister Comida's. We caught several fish this way by working them very slow and letting them sit on the bottom.
It appears the worst of the winter is over the bass will turn on better every day and when they go in motion for the pre-spawn they won't stop. We might get a cold day here and there but it shouldn't affect the bite especially up into the day.
I have days open in 2009, please call to book your preferred date.
