Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 3/7/09
As has been the case most of the spring the early part of the week has been cold and by the later part we are showing signs of warming. The bass seemed to respond to the first or second day of cold then shut down by the third day; then comes the warming trend and it seems as though it takes a couple of days to get them feeding again. The water temperature dropped back all the way to the mid 40's then started to warm again by the end of the week.
The roller coaster ride changed the bite everyday for me. When the warm came back the size of the bass went up but slowed the number of bites. Biggest fish this week was a little over 7 lbs. but the numbers averaged 7 to 10 on the slower days and 13 to 20 on the more active days. Typical early spring; but it appears we are in for some more consistent temperatures going forward and this should stabilize the bite and group the bass up as we move through March.
Most of this week I fished the mid part of the lake as the bass are now moving in all parts of the lake. The keys for me this week had to do with green grass, stumps and warmer coves. The best bites still came on a rattle bait but we did find bites on Mister Twister worms, Punisher Spinner baits, jerk baits and Tight-Line Jigs, most all the active fish were shallow with the exception of some river channel fish we found on the cold days.
March should be great, I have openings still available in March; there are some great days ahead.
