Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/16/09
With the exception of Friday the bass fishing remained as strong as I have seen it this year. We are nearing the end of the shad spawn fishing where the shad are chasing spinner baits and the bass are there with them so the great spinner bait bite may quickly come to an end. I'm hoping for a few more weeks we'll just have to see what next week brings.
Thursday we shot a TV show and had enough film in 2 hours to have totally made the show. We absolutely killed the fish on spinner baits early in the morning; then moved on to some buzzbait action for another hour or so. This past week I had the biggest stringer of bass I have had in 6 years with a 5 fish day of 33 pounds and a 10 fish day of over 50 lbs. It's been an incredible week on Guntersville working 5 to 9 feet of water with Punisher Spinner baits and SWL buzz baits. Friday was the first sunny morning and day in several days and we struggled most of the day. We still caught some fish on spinner baits but the size was down and the numbers were quite a bit less with only about 8 fish on my morning trip.
The summer bite is coming, we should be seeing a big improvement in top water fishing a worm fishing, and there are certainly some great days to come. Come fish with me I have days available to fish with you!
