Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/26/12
This past week offered some challenging days and some great days, my time on the water was very productive some days and others I struggled. The common thread to it all was every day I was on the water the top water bite was consistent and fun every day. The biggest difference in this year and last to me is the top water bite, there appears to be enough milfoil to create holes in the grass for the fish to come up thru it to strike top water baits. Where last year it was mainly hydrilla and it was so thick you really couldn't get the bass to react as they are this year.
I had a productive week on several baits outside of top water also, as the flipping bite in the mid of the day is also helping to add some consistency to the past weeks catches. I stated flipping 1 oz. Tight-Line jigs in watermelon color in the wholes of the grass along the 10 ft deep grass edges and found some good size fish doing it. The downside of the week was the 11 am to 3 pm time frame as the heat slowed the fishing during that time frame nearly every day.
Fishing is good; you have to bear the heat to find them but still catching plenty of fish and having enough fun to make it all worth it!
