Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 6/30/12
Fishing this past week, was certainly affected by the extreme heat not only slowing the bite but putting the fisherman on the lake in some difficult health conditions that could cause some real problems for anyone on that water for an extended period of time. My personal days on the water were limited to 4 hours that put us on and off the water by no later than 9:30am.
The good news was there was a pretty good top water bite for at least 2 hours of the morning, and with some luck it continued for the entire time we were on the water. The other interesting note is that it appears that the bigger bass have finally stacked up on the deep ledges and points around the 20 to 30 foot level. You could see them on your Lowrance Structure scan and with a little persistence you could get them to bite with Tight-Line jigs ¾ oz. football head jigs, in a watermelon color. Regardless of your presentation fishing was average at best with a short time every day where it was pretty good if you could find the active fish.
As we turn towards fall I look for the frog bite to really turn on, book your frog trip now before we get busy as the fall is shaping up to be a as good as we have seen with the grass really showing some strong growth this season.
