Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 9/4/09
You can sum up this past week pretty easily, good numbers but the bigger fish were hard to find. Day after day I hit the water thinking that the big fish would turn on, but they didn't at least for me. We had some days of 30 or more fish, we chased schooling fish some and we fished some strong top water patterns but never put a big fish in the boat. The good news was we were fishing and catching fish the bad news well you got it!
Most of the week we started early looking for that strong top water bite, and got met by strong winds, many of them from the north and east and had to wait for the wind to calm some for the fish to turn on. You know what they say, "wind from the east fish bite the least." One evening there was a strong north wind and the pop-r bite over the schooling fish was very strong they just didn't have the size. We did have the best week of the late summer fishing a rat; those bites were fish in the 3 to 4 lb. range, good keepers just not big enough to win a tournament with.
Some of the best news for me came mid day Thursday, as we started fishing some areas that I traditionally find the cranking bite every fall and yes they were there, and within a 20 minute period put a few good keepers on crank baits in the boat. This will only get better as the fall goes on, I can't wait!
The fall bite is nearly here, the best is yet to come and I have days available to fish with you!
