Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 9/4/10
There is no doubt fall fishing is here, the patterns we caught fish this past week were definitely fall fishing patterns. The bass are slowly feeling the water starting to cool, they certainly haven't all moved into a fall pattern but everyday it picked up! We also found them hitting fall pattern type baits like crank baits, swim baits and the like. The key was using these baits in reactive type movements, so they strike out of curiosity and movement as they generally will in the fall.
We had a good week as far as size also, as we had two days where we landed some bigger fish in the 6 lb range, with the numbers starting to pick up day after day! Believe me there are still plenty of slow times out there where the bass seem to be suspending, but as we stuck with it and worked different patterns we managed to find a way to catch them each day.
The biggest thing that needs to happen now to put us directly into full fledged fall pattern is for the grass to start breaking up from the wind and rains that we generally get in the fall. This will push the bass out of the thick cover and expose them to the cooling temperatures, and should really pick things up for the rest of the fall.
