The lagoon is still producing some good trout and the reds are scattered through out the lagoon flats in a spawning mood. You will see the schools doing some swimming in circles and rolling on their sides. My last charter was going to fish with me for tarpon, as he has never caught one in several attempts with other guides over the years. I told him the scoop and he let me know the night before our trip that he hurt his shoulder. Well big tarpon would only injure him even more so we went to the lagoon instead of the inlet. I knew I could put him on some small tarpon and we would have a shot. We watched tarpon roll for a long time before we got a few suckers to bite and he landed a small tarpon on light tackle. We caught trout redfish and jacks as well. It wasn't a banner day by my scale but any time you land a tarpon the day isn't bad.

The offshore fishing for red snapper has been really good, we have been catching our limit on most of our trips. Sea bass, lane snapper, trigger fish, grouper are some of the other fish we are taking on the bottom. Yesterday we caught all of the above along with two dolphin and three cobia. Berkley power mullet will catch your cobia, they will fight over it. They make all colors but my favorite Berkley Powerbait (power mullet) is the silver mullet color in 5 inch. You can cast them far and they swim awesome. Everything will eat these, the mackerel are going crazy as well we saw many schools launching them selves out of the water crashing bait. From the inlet to twenty miles out you will see them. They tore my power mullet to shreds a few times. We also caught some bonito on them this week trolling through the schools. Yes they troll like the real thing and better. I always have one on a heavy spinning rod ready to go so you can fire a bait quick to a fish, it is even better when you can have a few rods rigger with them . Sail fish are still around and the bigger dolphin are off a little deeper. Hay want to catch some fish, be sure to call me and I will guarantee you do? 386 314 5656 Take Note New email address captjoe1@cfl.rr.com
