Fishing with the Clausen's for Spotted Sea Trout
The trout bite has been on and off with the most catches taking place during mid to high tide range. As you know trout are basically sight feeders and are always looking for an opportunity to see first what they are going to kill then eat. With that being said, "it seem that this tide stage offers up the most clear water situation.
I can suggest that fishermen that want to use light tackle along with the artificial stuff that this is a good time. There are those fishermen that like the real thing and then there are those that want to work their way to a hookup. For those out there that want to cast, retrieve, and pitch I suggest putting this style of fishing top on your list!
The Clausen team (Evelyn and James) fished this past week. This fishing team has found their "personal fishing catching nitch!" After having fished with them last fall, believe me I know what I am talking about. The recipe for this affair is simple and easy to explain. They use ultra light tackle loaded with around 8 pound test line. In their fish game" no real live baits are used." Evelyn and James prefer pitching and casting as their design style. As we fished last fall I noticed that Jim never stayed any longer than 15 to 20 minutes in each spot. After landing a fish the time clock was re-set once again. The preferred bait was the proven D.O.A. LURE, which worked for them every time. The reason being is that they believe in it! With that being said, "so do I!"
The plan of attack went like this: While using their ultra quiet trolling motor we worked the ins/outs of docks pitching and retrieving each asking if we got a hit or not! The rule of thumb when it comes to a spotted sea trout bite is that sometimes they hit it hard while other times it is a "touchy-feel-ie" feeding game! Once you decide which bite you are dealing with it's either speed up or slow down your retrieving game. Believe me, I learn straight from the Clause Duo that they are many "trout types of bites!"
