Captain Judy's Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore Suggestions
For those Fishermen that are scare of using the Florida Shrimp, Don't be!
Our inshore bait situation is a little strange with fishermen still having to purchase whether than catch their own live shrimp. It's even worst, because live shrimp purchased isn't even the local caught bait. It's hauled here from Florida. I wonder what's going to happen when we use all of their bait up? At any rate, I got a real good up and close personal look at these so-called "gold shrimp." At first I thought they were called "gold shrimp," because they are costing $25.00 plus per quart. That was one reason for sure! However, the second reason is the fact of the matter that the shrimp have a gold tint along with some small spot markings. All of these color features really shine when you get a bunch of them together. After taking a real good look at them I came to the quick conclusion that the Florida shrimp weren't very big. However, in the world of the old sight feeding spotted sea trout the shrimp's sporting size is just prefect!
As I talked to inshore captains that were using the bait I found that reports were good. The good news as I said earlier, "great bite size for spotted seat trout." Their coloring reminds me of the DOA shrimp pattern that is transparent with gold spots, which has proven very good in the getting the fish's attention. It seems that the Florida shrimp are more hardliner than our local shrimp. It's thought that this is due to the fact that the water temperature is warmer down south and our somewhat cooler situation works just right for them. So therefore with correct water flow live wells your "gold bait" could last a longer time than the local ones. As with anything else there is another side to this coin. All fishermen want them to last, but only long enough to hook them up and cast them out!
