When the Fraser river is high, and I mean high, water is into the bushes and 3 feet from the top of the dykes it means BIG Fast water that limits where you can fish. There is also debri coming down river from 1000's of kilometres of tributaries. Big trees coming down river are a common sight and leaves gathering on your line if your not in the right protected seams.
regardless of these tough conditions we were out there fishing. We found many spots where the debri was well away from us and the current speed is ideal to hold fish looking for easy water to hold in. So we anchor up and drop the baits down to sit on the bottom. And after a few minutes one of the rods starts bouncing and by the time I can get over to grab it the line is already peeling off. I quickly grab it and pass it off to my fishing partner for the day, a very excited Natascha who has never caught anything over 3 lbs! She is holding on dearly and as the fish jumps many times and rips line of the reel(she is laughing wildly) and asking for advice but she does a very good job fighting the big fish and after a hard 25 minute battle the 6 foot, 100 lb fish comes to the boat. I do my best to bring the fish into the boat for a photo with the camera set to 10 second delay so I can help her hold it up for a great shot. Everything goes great and after the pic I slide the fish back into the river where it quickly goes back down to the bottom.
6 foot is a great fish but there are many bigger ones out there. I have seen hundreds of fish over 200 lbs come to the boat and every year fish over 500 lbs are taken and even a few over 800 lbs!!!
By mid July the fishing gets great so why not give it a try?
