After a great morning of trout fishing I was anxious to get my afternoon charter on the same fun action. We had a incoming tide and more water on the flats so I was very optimistic we would have a 50 trout afternoon.
I started Mike with a greenback and Dave with a shrimp. I fully expected to hear "Fish On" within seconds. After 10 minutes I made a short move with the same numbing result! Trout are easy to catch…I was on this very same location just an hour prior and we caught fish after fish.
Dave observed the cold front (clouds) rapidly moving in along with a shift in wind direction from the East to Westerly. It wouldn't be the first time a front shut down the bite or I was stinking up the place.
After a few small trout with one looking like a newborn I moved us into less than 2' of water hunting Gator trout and Reds. Good news Dave reel began to scream after 10 minutes of waiting. He handled the 4 pound trout like a pro. Mike was next only to have the big trout come unbuttoned.
It was now getting close to sundown when Mike hooked another very big trout that had a be 28" and was very wide. Just 15' from the boat the Gator came undone! If that wasn't bad enough the same thing happened just 5 minutes later. Mike and Dave are a tons of fun and shared some amazing stories. Overall it was the lowest fish count since I became a Captain. Amazing how a day can have such a difference from am to pm.
