Artificial Reefs and their occupants!
Flat Flounder Deal!
During this time "short boat rides to the fish" is always an option. The reason being is the fact is that just about all fish migrate at one time or the other. In the case of this time of the year there is a lot of migrating going on. With that being said, "the artificial reefs are great stopping off and refueling places for those to fish.
Off Georgia's coast we have quite a few artificial reefs within 10 miles of the shoreline. Just to name a few around Savannah we have KC, DUA, and SAV artificial manmade reef. What these reefs hold at this time of the year can be shocking to say the least!
As of last week all of these spot held the interest of quite a few flat fish. I'm talking about flounder. Yes, the wrecks on these spots are great places for the old flounder to lay low, hibernate, and feed on whatever may be the case. While the flounder are doing what they do you can catch quite a few. Our boats normally catch flounder in what I call a "bi-catch mode." This means you weren't targeting them. So therefore when you do catch one it's a shock for sure.
However, for those that want to target flounder solely here are a few suggestions for getting that job done.
Flounder during this time migrate to the artificial wrecks to do what they do. Once arriving to said location they find a comfortable spot that they can stick their heads and most of their body into. Once they have found this source they swim in as far as they can go, but they always make sure to leave their tails out. None of this makes sense, but old so true. I think that they do this "ostrich thing" of head in tail out so that they can be notified of current direction changes. In other words their tail can tell them by its waving in the current exactly what is going on. I know all this sound crazy, but it's so true.
