Fishing report for the week ending 1/31/2010 Its nice for a change to talk about some normal fishing its been a while, the last front comming through on the weekend lacks the punch of the ones earlier in the month. The weather forecast is for temperatures in the 70"s during the week and another front comming in toward the following weekend. The trout and redfish are getting into a normal pattern of being in potholes and transitions on the low tides and wandering the flats on the higher water. Fishing potholes for seatrout on the low incoming tides is best, casting softbaits ( white redfish majic on a 1/4 oz. jighead) is my favorite or a shrimp under a poping cork also works well. Redfish of the 18 inch and under variety have been common around deeper mangrove shorelines along with sheepshead and a few small mangrove snapper, a live shrimp with a splitshot on the bottom works best. I have not seen any signs of mackeral, bluefish and pompano but with a more normal weather pattern they should be back soon. Bigger redfish and trout have also been hard to find but they to should return after a week or two of some steady weather. Tight Lines Get out and fish!
