Amazing best describes today's trip. The morning was like a painting as the sun was rising while the moon was setting. Captain Steven was first on the giant Drum Flats at 7 am and while sipping coffee the Drum appeared like magic not 100 feet away from where I had them yesterday.
When the Giant Drum are not being chased by a herd of boats they will hit a Berkley Gulp shrimp every time! The first cast as promised was immediately inhaled and it was game on. While Drum don't make long runs this is combat fishing. By 7:45 two giants were landed and safely returned. Have your camera ready for a quick photo and safe return. Remember let the bait sit you don't have to get fancy.
As the flotilla started to arrive we were done and headed to Port Manatee grass flats area. Tossing a DOA Deadly combo in 5' for trout turned out to be a nice surprise. Mackerel after Mackerel chased anything that moved. Captain Steven quickly rigged Clark Silver Spoons and its was non stop. All were legal size with most over 20".
Next stop was for redfish and again it was as planned with 15 small redfish to 18" hammered live shrimp. The low tide had the reds dropping off the flats and into canals. Did I mention it was sunny warmed 70's and barely a breeze? Awesome day with more on tap.
