Bright sunny days and warmer conditions have helped return small schools of redfish to the flats reports Captain Keith Mixon(www.mixinworkwithplay.com). During the past week, slot size redfish measuring up to twenty two inches have been caught when using a Nemire's ¼ ounce Red Ripper Gold Spoon Lure. Most of these redfish have been caught near pot holes in two to three feet of water near Scottsmoor located north of Titusville, Florida. In addition, black drum continue to bite select shrimp or cut lady fish when rigged on a circle hook and fished on the bottom. Many of the fish that were caught measured just over the legal limit of fourteen inches.
Around Port Canaveral, several large jack crevalle have put up an awesome fight near docks and other structure. Many of these fish have weighed ten pounds or more. A medium action spinning reel combo equipped with thirty pound test Power Pro and twenty pound test mono leader will work well when playing a game of tug of war with these fish. A variety of top water lures have provided plenty of explosive action during calm conditions.
