The golden tilefish action in Fort Lauderdale is red hot right now. This week we are catching a lot of big golden tilefish, some upwards of 25-30 pounds. Golden tilefish are a bottom dweller in very deep water, usually 500 feet or deeper. There is another species of tilefish, the grey tilefish, that we catch in 400ft of water or less. But golden tilefish are the super deepwater species. Known for their extreme strength, golden tilefish aren't like many bottom fish that 'give up' halfway through the fight. These fish fight with all their might all the way up to the surface. They are one of the best eating fish in the ocean.
This time of year is a great time to go out and catch these abyssal fish. Most people don't even know about them. This month the golden tilefish action has been awesome, with a lot of really big ones mixed into our catches. Our sportfishing charters have been hitting some of our secret deep shipwrecks that few know about and getting into the largest golden tilefish I have seen caught in years. If you want to go after a beautiful, great eating and super strong species, these fish are right up your alley. Come fishing anytime in April or May and come hook into some of these monster golden tilefish. The big ones bite only this time of year.
