There have been a few striped bass caught in the waters around Beach Haven, but the captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association have been scoring in various ways.
Captain Carl Sheppard had the "Star Fish out for an afternoon on the bay recently and his crew found some good action on blowfish while also pulling in some black sea bass, porgies, and even a baby amberjack. Captain Carl attended a meeting with the Coast Guard recently learning about the latest equipment requirements and boarding rules. One of the key new pieces he was advised to consider is to assure the emergency signal of his marine radio is hooked up to our GPS to assist the CG in identifying where we are if an emergency occurs.
Captain John Lewis of the "Insatiable" reports went fishing with Rich Perrelo for tilefish. Captain John said this was his first experience with tilefish and mate Nick was calling the shots. They put 2 pounds of lead on to hold bottom. The fishing started slow but after a few drifts things picked up. They started catching as the wind went up to the point where they could not hold bottom and the bite ended. They ended the day with 9 blue lines and one golden tile.
