Fishing report for the week ending 10/31/2010
We have had several weeks of great fishing and weather which may change by friday, forecast calls for northwest winds 20-25 mph
This week gave us that long awaited fall redfish push that I look forward to each year. Pictured here is longtime friend Tim Erwin with a nice 11 lb. redfish taken on a top water skitterwalk. Tim and I have fished together many times over the years and had to agree that catching one of these big redfish on top water plugs in shallow water is as much fun as it gets. These fish number in schools of hundreds this time of the year and when you can get near them will eat anything in site. They can be very spooky at times though especially in light wind conditions. I love to throw plugs because you can keep a distance without spooking the school and theres nothing like seeing these fish blow a plug out of the water. Cut bait can also be very effective.
The mackerel, bluefish and ladyfish off the beaches have also been excellent, they can be caught on live bait or artificials. Fish anywhere you see the birds.Heres Ken and Sandy Ashley with a nice bluefish they caught, they are running up to around 5 lbs. and are a hoot on light tackle.Trout have also been good this week here are Jennifer and Hailey Helling with a nice trout caught sunday freelinning shinners. I believe we will be seeing a lot more bigger trout after this weekends cool down.Hailey with a nice trout on her own.
This should be a great week for fishing with good weather.
