The photo of the week shows a beautiful fall, wild Steelhead landed and released by Boris Konovalov on the Kalum River in late September 2007. Remember…last week Boris was releasing a Coho. Boris and his two friends booked their guided fishing trip with me and caught both Steelhead and Coho on the same day. It does NOT get any better than this. Wahoo!

Dear Fishing Friends:
Weather is typical for this time of year, some rain, heavy at times, cloudy but just beautiful when the sun shines. No major snow falls yet. The snow line is low. Most all the leaves are off of the trees. Steelhead fishing is fair on all the rivers except for the Zymoetz (Copper) River which is poor after it took a hit from too much rain mid week. It is cleaning up now. The Kalum is in fabulous shape and the Steelhead fishing is excellent. Fresh fall runs should still be coming in. The water is at a good height. There seems to be a good run of Steelhead this year. They will be in the river all winter, setting up to spawn in the late spring. WATER CONDITIONS: The Skeena is low and in good shape. The Zymoetz (Copper) River is dirty. The K alum (upper and lower) River is in great shape. Kitimat River is low and clean.

SKEENA RIVER: The water is in good shape. Should be a few Steelhead and Trout one can catch.
KALUM RIVER: The water (both upper and lower) is in excellent shape and the fishing is good for Steelhead. The water height is normal for this time of year.

ZYMOETZ (COPPER) RIVER: The water is out of shape today from the rain we had mid week.
AREA RIVER RECORDS: Chinook Salmon: Skeena River, 92.5-pounds; Kalum River, 85-pounds; Kitimat River, 74-pounds; Steelhead: Skeena River, 45-pounds; Coho Salmon: Skeena River, 27-pounds.
Fishing Report from: Nicholas Dean Lodge for the Week of November 4 to 10, 2007
The past week in the Skeena Region has been a very wet one. Earlier in the week, most of the precipitation fell as snow, and Terrace was blanketed with about 3-5 inches of snow. Warmer temperatures helped melt the snow, which, combined with daily rains have caused rivers to swell and blow out. With cooling nighttime temperatures however, most rivers should be fishable soon. The trout fishing in rivers near Terrace has been quite good, and fishing single egg patterns on fly rods or real eggs fished on conventional gear have been the most effective. Steelhead fishing has been okay during the past week, and I should have a few more fish stories in the coming weeks.
We are actively booking for the 2008 season, and if you are thinking of fishing the Skeena and its tributaries next year, this is a great time to book as prime time spaces are still available. Fishing Report from: Ron Wakita of Reliable Guide and Charters
KITIMAT RIVER: We experienced our first significant snowfall on Monday November 4th. The Kitimat River has remained fishable but not much angler activity. There should be fair numbers of cutthroat trout for any anglers looking for fishing opportunities.
DOUGLAS CHANNEL: The Douglas Channel is starting to produce some "Winter Springs." Wes Owens hooked seven of these chrome beauties. He landed four but only retained two of them. Most weighed ten to fifteen pounds. Medrick Robinson also managed to boat one of these feeder chinook as well. We have some wind warnings for this weekend but as soon as the winds calm down local boaters are anxious to get out fishing.

Fishing Report from: Nimmo Bay Resort
This is the true BC. As a matter of fact it is the beginning for all those salmon and steelhead and all those anglers who go on a yearly angling odyssey in search of these beauties. Here is the 10,000 year old Ice Field that feeds many of the coast Range rivers, the life's stream to the salmonids of the coast.
Our environment is in danger of being lost, or at least severely depleted, with the onslaught of mans innovations. On every front nature is being attacked in the name of progress.
Ghandi once said, "There is enough for every mans need, but not enough for every mans greed". The rivers, as seen in this picture in their original state (frozen) are all we have left for the fish, for us, as water is crucial to our very existence, and for the wildlife which still abounds in BC.
It is up to each and every one of us to do our part in reducing our carbon footprint and do things just a bit differently than we have always done them. Push your elected representatives to find new ways and new money for alternative energy. Look at your own way of doing business and see how you might do it differently to save energy and reduce the effect of possible pollution on this planet.
Nimmo Bay is a part of the first BC Sustainable Tourism collective. This is a group of companies who got together to see how BC could be a sustainable destination into the future, and to share ideas on how front country and back country, big and small tourism venues can pool their best practices and ideas to make a difference in how we all do business. Today, people want to go to places where the owners and managers really do look after their own back yard and the environment is a true concern. The business ethic has to be combined with the conservation mentality for one to proceed and succeed.
If the globe is warming and it is the fault of mankind, then we can and should do something about it because once the ice is gone, so are the rivers and the fish.
And without water, we're all doomed. Today, BC is blessed with water but 90% of the world is not and there is a whole bunch of people out there that are starving for clean, pure, sweet water, that for the time being, we have in spades.

The photo is of Evgeny Lebedeff of Moscow, Russia. A long way to travel and fish but Evgeny and his two fishing buddies really enjoyed themselves. They booked with me in late September and their guide was Dustin Kovacvich of Nicholas Dean Lodge. They booked for five days, traveled a lot of county and fished many different rivers. This photo shows that not every fishing picture can be posed perfectly. Kudos to Evgeny for releasing this fish in deeper water.
