When Jeff and Jill called me to book a Winter fishing trip, they asked me what would be good to do with children. I suggested a four hour Redfish trip. We could have gone deep sea fishing out in the gulf but I was more concerned with keeping the kids attention and entertaining them. The four hour trip is ideal for those who want to spend some time on the water fishing and have the other half of the day doing something else.

We started out the pass just off Orange Beach and my deckhand Lem put the trolling lures out behind the boat and we began pulling them at about four knots. We saw the birds working just to the left so we headed toward them. Just before we got to the diving birds, two reels drag alarm went off and Jeff and his father-in-law Jack raced to the rods. It was fun watching them battle the hard fighting golden looking Redfish. We got them up to the boat and netted them. We got our two anglers to hold their catch for a photo opportunity. They decided to keep them because they heard me talking about blackened redfish. They also had some guest coming over to their condo tonight so they wanted to feed them some fresh fish.

We ended up catching over 18 Redfish today. Three of them weighed over 30 lbs. We sure do like to see smiling customers and kids grinning.

We especially look forward to Jeff and Jill coming back in March for the annual Cobia migration that produces huge Cobia (ling) that can weigh up to 80 lbs each.
