Captain Judy's Saltwater Fishing Report
Which includes:
Inshore report, Offshore Report, Freshies Suggestions, and "Little Miss Judy's Believe It or Not!" (Story)
Gulf Stream
Hot water temperatures call for desperate times! Believe me it's not what you think! When the water of the stream gets about the same temperature as those waters to the west "the fish bite opportunity" isn't as isolated! With that being said, "blue water fish can be found almost anywhere!"
Saturday July 7, 2007 Fish Day
Captain Ken Kennickell of Miss Judy Charter along with his crew Captain Deidra Helmey Jeffcoat and her daughter Lindsay made the "well worth ride to the blue waters of the stream." At this point, it's time to introduce you to the "fishing crew!" Donald Lawson was their fishing team meaning "one fisherman and two strong reeling arms!"
I need to take a few moments to bring you up to speed on this particular customer. Donald Lawson fishes a lot with Miss Judy Charters, which for us is a good thing. He rarely brings anyone with him when he is going fishing. His significant other "Danielle" goes occasionally, which is also a great fisherman, but didn't make this particular trip. So therefore Captain Ken had Donald only, which by the way "always means big fish over the gunnels soon!" I had to take the time to share this with you. While fishing with us from the inshore to the blue waters of the Gulf Stream Donald has caught almost everything that the sea has to offer. I normally take him to the snapper banks (Captain Judy) and boy do my lines get stretched! Donald should purchase a lottery ticket every week! I think you get this catching picture!
Captain Ken decided on this particular fish day to "go north!' Going this direction can be anything from the Deli Ledge to areas even further north. After reaching the Deli Ledge he pushed north even more. He found a great weed line, which looked good and had birds-a-feeding. This is where he picked to "lay out his spread!" They worked this line for a while and had a few hits, but not much to it. So therefore Captain Ken changed his course and headed to deeper water. As he made his way to "parts unknown" it happened. One of the largest Wahoo caught for the 2007 blue water fishing season hits Donald's line…. The Wahoo was big, it fought hard, and it took Captain Ken and Donald to pick it up! She was a monster! (More in next report!)
Over the Radio Same day!
There were reports of sailfish being caught and black fin tuna while fishing the Deli Ledge and areas to the north. It seemed that some found rips even though they "looked fishy" weren't holding any attention from the blue water fish. All these long weed lines have to offer was bait, weeds, flotsam, and jetsam. Most of the fish were caught over some sort of live bottom areas!
Sunday July 8, 2007
Captain Ken and Bailey Pritchard blue fishing team group started their trolling day at the Deli ledge. The catch was slow so all on board decided to give bottom fishing a try. As they were getting rigged up for the bottom fish, Captain Ken left one line out. At high noon that one surface pulled line was billed by a large marlin, which thought for sure this was the meal for her to eat! At this time, the bait was dropped back; the blue inhaled it, and once the blue found out that bait ate was hooked to a line…… I will have more on this story in next weeks report!
The bottom line to this report is a simple one, "you won't know unless you go!" Captain Ken's back-to-back Gulf Stream trips turned out to be the most two exciting blue water fishing days of the season! At least till this date! (July 7 and 8, 2007) The good news about that last sentence is the fact that the blue water season is not over and there still is plenty of great trolling times left!
I will go in to detail in next weeks report more about the big Wahoo and the marlin. Also I have been talking with Captain George Patterson and he has offered to share some of his "blue water fishing tactics!" I am going to post several different "catching scenarios by Captain George!" I am working on this information and this should be posted in next week's report! Some much information and so little time!!
