Although this weeks mid-to-upper 90's discouraged some anglers from fishing shallow water, we had two bass over 5 pounds on two trips, as the month of June rolls around and summer officially begins.
Both bass weighing 5 & 6 pounds, were caught in 2 feet of water on both trips! One, was caught on a black Mann's Super Frog and the other on a white Zoom Trick worm fished weightless.
Topwater lures are producing big bass the first two hours of the day from 5 a.m. until about 7 a.m. In some very shallow water.
With the hot and very bright sun coming out early each day, very little cloud cover and no rain in weeks, it is some very tough early summertime fishing conditions...for some anglers.
But, just like the bass, the anglers that pursue them, must adjust as well. You can catch bass in 1-3 feet of water all day! If you can stand the heat!
But some bass are waiting in depths of only 5-10 feet along deeper banks, creek channel bends, around piers and boat houses, along bridges and causeways, and on any deep river channel ledge along a shallow weedy flat drop-off.
Rip-rap (and there is lot of these man-made rocks to be found on the lower lake) is also good -- all day -- with lures like crankbaits and bottom fished lures.
Points (any points), found along cuts, pockets, major creeks and main lake spots, the ends of islands, and even shallow secondary points far up in creeks, are now loaded with bass gathering here for the early summer period.
Like said, "Their everywhere!"
