This past Monday featured air temps in the upper 80's. Water temps soared, in just a few days from the slow warming low-60's, to the sudden spawning temperatures of the low-to-mid 70's.

After seeing little or no beds only one week ago in early April, an angler can now scan the lakes shallows (with a good pair of polorized sunglasses) and now see those rounded out bass beds most everywhere.

A number of lures will actually fool these bass into biting, while fishing water in that 1-4 foot depth range.

Some bass are actually on the bed and there are also those bass still in the pre-spawn mode, cruising and looking for an easy meal!

Topwaters like zara spooks and buzzbaits, frogs, prop-baits and popping type topwaters, all cover water fast and get those bigger bass bites.

Especially when fished early, late in the day or during cloudy periods.

On bottom these bass will hit Texas rigged worms, lizards, crayfish imitations, creature baits, sweet beavers, grubs, and finesse plastics on jig heads.

Jig combos, swim baits, soft jerkbaits and floating worms work too!

Covering water fast calls for the use of spinnerbaits, chatter baits, jerk baits, rattling lipless lures and shallow diving crankbaits.

There are many other lures and techniques, so always try various lures, colors, styles and sizes.

* (Use heavy line whenever possible. There are some very big bass in shallow water on Guntersville lake in April and May!)

We have had some phenominal days recently catching over 50 bass a day, but only by experimenting with different lure selection and techniques!

For a fun-filled, fish catching guided trip on Guntersville Lake (year round), always call on Reeds Guide Service...first! Guntersville Lake's (and Alabama's) oldest, professional, " bass fishing only " guide service!

So keep in mind when fishing Guntersville lake, throw the box at em'! On some days they do have a preferance!

Use sharp hooks, check your reel's drag every morning, re-tie often and always have a good net handy!

Practice catch and release, all the time.

Thanks and Good Fishin'
