Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 9/14/08
This past week for me had a lot of searching and trying new patterns. I spent hours looking for new ways to find some fall patterns that were a little different from the typical fall fishing I have been doing.
We spent time fishing deep water 20 to 30 feet, looking for the deep bite and maybe some bigger fish still in the deep summer pattern. We worked top water early and moved off of that as the heat of the day got to us. We also had some days of strong winds and that brought out the Punisher Spinner Bait that brought some fair success. Where the grass was thin we went back to swimming a big worm and had some success with it also.
The bottom line was that none of the patterns produced consistent fish; we had flurries of success and some long hours of fishing in-between bites during certain times of the day. We averaged 11 to 17 fish per outing and the biggest fish of the week was a little over 4 pounds. We did at one point get into some 3 lb. spotted bass and in a short period of time put about 8 good spots in the boat.
With all the searching I did this week covered a lot of water; as we fished from All-Reds in the lower lake to Jones Creek fishing depth ranges all over the map. I believe the water I covered this past week will help my up-coming pre-tournament fisherman find some new ways to find fish this next week.
