Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 7/5/08
For the most part the good times continued on Guntersville this past week, a few down periods but not drastic. Some strong winds and the passage of a cold front made for some slight down periods. Overall the catches remained strong with 20 to 35 fish a day and few big fish just about every day.
The biggest change this week has been the top water bite, for some reason it's been slower than I expected and when you did find top water fish they were generally small fish. The up side has been the crank bait bite, the week started out strong fishing deep points and cranking down to about 15 feet. This bite just keeps getting better, there seems to be a strong nucleus of fish schooling off the grass areas, contributing to some great fun for the crank bait fisherman.
Most of the week I spent mid to up river, working grass early and then moving off the grass to the deeper water. This pattern should hold for most of the next 6 weeks as we go through the summer months. Fishing is great and if you have the strength to endure the heat it should be a super summer on Guntersville.
