Fishing for big halibut continues to be good out of Gustavus, Alaska, near Glacier Bay National Park, while action is improving for silver salmon.

Most boats are catching limits of halibut, with many fish in the 50 to 70 pound range, and a few bigger.

"We didn't get any giant fish last week, but got a couple of 150s and a bunch of big eater-size fish around 60 and 70 pounds," said Capt. Andy Martin of Wild Rivers Fishing.

Action for king salmon has been good offshore, while silvers are showing up around Three Hill Island near Elfin Cove, and along Excursion Inlet near the cannery. Pinks and chums also are showing up in good numbers.

"Since the cannery opened and we have been able to catch fresh pollock for bait, we've noticed a nicer grade of halibut and faster action," Martin says. "We've often caught our limits, and then continued to catch and release and have been letting go fish over 100 pounds because we're already limited out."

Capt. KC on the Blackjack caught the big fish of the week, a 320-pounder.

"Stacked herring and fresh pollock have been the best baits," Martin said. "KC and I have been marinating our baits with Pautzke's Halibut and Rockfish Nectar and are seeing great results."
