The fishing was slow the last week of December but has started to pick up again. The bay fishing is producing yellowtail, roosterfish, Spanish mackerel and snapper. There are big tuna but almost 80 miles offshore so most boats have been fishing corbetena or north close to Lo de Marcos. This has been good for stripped marlin, mahi mahi and sailfish . Most of these fish are caught trolling mullet, Google eye or pitch baits. We fished over close to Yelapa and saw several sailfish and caught one using pitch baits, should be great the coming week. The weather is perfect and staying 80 deg with lots of sun. The water temperature is around 74 deg in most spots. The offshore fishing is holding strong where most fishermen are catching tuna, marlin and sailfish. Some days the tuna were close to El Banco and some days not. We are still catching a lot of huge Pargos as well around the islands and corbetena and banco. The mahi mahi are starting to show up around the buoys near Salayita and most are good size. Lot of sardines showing up everywhere so the fishing should be good the coming weeks. Best baits have been trolling mullet/goggle eye, diamond jigs, sardines, and pitch baits.
