Hernando beach fishing report.
Fishing is good in back water creeks and bays, target red fish, trout and black drum around creeks, Springs, mud bays and oyster bars. Live and dead shrimp is working great. Red fish are holding on islands with hard lime stone bottom and oyster bars, live shrimp or fresh cut mullet rigged with a 1/0 or 2/0 circle hook and a light 20 pound leader is my go to rig. Fish a good moving tide for reds and look for the mullet schools they are always a key sign of reds being close by.
Trout are scattered from the back creeks to the shallow grass flats. Live shrimp under a popping cork is working great. Soft plastic flukes and little Jon's in white, watermelon red and golden bream rigged weed less or with a 1/8 ounce jig head is a great search bait for trout and reds.
Sheepshead are holding on the grouper rocks live and dead shrimp work the best. Use a 1/0 bait savor hook and a small split shot on a 20 pound leader fish just a little away from the rocks up current for the sheepies. They are big this time of year 3 to 8 pounds.
