The weather has warmed up for now until this next cold front comes through florida the weather man is calling for temperatures in the mid 20s to low 30s on the beginning of the new year.It looks like we are going to have a cold front or two every week this winter making for windy rainy and cold days of fishing for us.I have been catching alot of big reds in the creeks and coves with muddy and rocky bottom.There are many springs,creeks,and coves through out the nature coast area.I was out on the water today and we caught 7 redfish one redfish with 5 spots and
we got a 27"redfish with 16 spots pretty cool seeing all those spots.We used Berkly Gulp new penny jerkbaits rigged weedless.When the water gets cold like it is now work your lures slowly and then keep switching your retrieval speed through out the day to see what gets their attention the best.Look for reds on a high out going tide if you find the mullet the reds wont be far behind, go slow with your trolling motor and really pick apart the area you are fishing.The trout are in the same area as the redfish this past cold front made the trout a little on the slow side but they are picking up now we been catching them up 23" on shrimp and lures such as white zooms has produced the best bite for artificials .Sheepshead and black drum are all over the place use shrimp to catch them.Cut mullet,and shrimp are the bait of choice i like to free line the bait up by the shore line and just let it sit.On cold mornings the fish can be sluggish so letting the bait to sit there can improve your catch.
