fishing report for hernando county 10/26/09
The inshore fishing is awesome right now we have huge schools of redfish all over the flats from Aripeka to Chazz, we also have big schools of spotted sea trout in 1-4 feet of water in the same areas as redfish.A little farther out the spanish mackerel are on the bait schools and we got some cobia roaming around, target water depth from 6-30 feet on some structure and free line a pinfish you just might get lucky.The redfish are in schools of 20-100 fish and most of the reds are over the slot up to 34" i have been using top waters in the morning then around noon i will switch to a jerk bait or a suspending lure like a sebile.For a weedless jerk bait i have the best luck with a new penny,white,or rootbeer by gulp.I use 10lb power pro line with a 20lb suffix leader i tie them too with a uni to uni knot and i always tie my hooks and lures with a loop knot.Ther are still white bait around in the flats so if you can get some they are working great for reds and big trout.The snook have been feeding good also look around the creeks and the residential cannals from sea pines to hernando you cant go wrong with slow trolling a yo-zuri diving plug.The trout bite is fantastic we are limiting out within 2 hours in the morning they are from 17-25" and we use nothing but top waters my favorite is a skitter walk color dosent matter the trout are killing them.Grouper have made it in shallows 10-15 feet i went out to some of my rocks and ledges i have in 12-14 feet and just slaid the gags on frozen threadfins and live greens and pins i forgot to take some pics but the biggest was around 17lb not bad.The fishing is great now as long as we dont get to cold the great fishing will go through december.Precision tackle has the best selection of hooks,line,rods,and lures on the nature coast if you have any questions fill free to give me a call or you can email me.The fishing is AWESOME right now so try to get out on the water or book a trip with me.
