Hernando Fishing Report
Well I just got back from vacation in the keys and I went out on a scouting trip today to see what is taking place right now. What I have seen is the red fish are in smaller groups 2 to 6 fish, size range 18 to 24 inches, the big reds that I did see are in singles and doubles. The red fish will start to school up in large schools by September, when these large schools show up they are in the feeding mood. Right now live bait is the ticket pin fish and green backs are candy to red fish. Fish a moving tide I like during the summer months a good incoming tide early in the morning look for the mullet schools around mangroves, rocks, oyster bars, and shallow grass flats.
Trout are still in the 6 to 10 foot depth, there are tons of shorty's out there but give it time and work through the shorts and you will get the gators. I like a 1/4 ounce jig head with a white 3 inch Gulp shrimp works great or a Rage tail shrimp in the watermelon red color also works good. Also fish a moving tide for trout and early morning or late evening.
Scallops are all over the place getting your limit is very easy to do we are getting the best results in 6 to 8 feet.
Book a trip and lets go catch some fish and scallops for a great dinner for your family, I know have 2 boats a 17 foot Carolina skiff with a 75 E Tec and a 24 foot Carolina skiff with a 150 Honda four stroke for the larger groups. Both boat a very safe and coast guard approved for your safety. So lets go Fishing.
