Winter time???? It sure seems that way with the water levels VERY low on Mosquito Lagoon causing the fish to bunch up around areas their used to being able to get to. During our winter months the waters are always low. Advantage: FISHERMAN! It's been some what of a feeding frenzy along drop offs even if the baitfish are not present. Watch for uncovered shoals dropping from 3 inches to 2 feet and your bound to score some great action.
On this weeks past charters it's been a "slam" almost every trip along with many other species being caught. Our slam would be this combo....redfish, trout, black drum and snook. Only 3 is a slam and VERY easy to do right now. Snook are not as targeted in the Lagoon as redfish, trout and black drum but are putting up great numbers as of late. Most snook are in the 5-8 pound range and must be handled with extreme care for a quick photo and release.
Tarpon reports are also flowing with most fish in the 40-60 pound class with several pushing the 100lb mark. Remember to keep those "poons" in the water for your photo. They are all over the open bays of the Lagoon and in the backwaters as well.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions and get on out there early for some outstanding fishing!
