Little Bay de Noc has a really good walleye bite going at the present time(which is typical for the month of August). If this year is like past years, it should stay good from now until ice-up in late December. There are lots of eating size fish in the 15"-21" range being caught on the inner bay from Escanaba north to Rapid River. We caught 14 keepers from 16"-23" on my last charter. Just one short of a 3 man limit! If you are looking for "eaters", then you want to fish inside the bay. This past week, trolling with crawler harnesses in an average depth of 32 feet has been the best. But some of the fish have been suspended only 14-16 feet down. Try to keep your speed about 1 mph. One of the best areas has been near Black Bottom on the east side of the bay between Gladstone and Escanaba. The northeast corner of the bay just east of Center Reef is another area that has produced a good number of fish.
In other news...The In-Fisherman PWT Tournament just wrapped up Friday. It's alot of fun having the likes of Mark Martin, Mike Gofrin, Keith Kavajecz, and Gary Parsons staying with us at our resort. And we always look forward to these guys coming to town. That said, despite north winds and bright sunny skies much of the time, some nice baskets came to the scales. The big fish of the tourney was caught by legendary pro Mark Martin at 10.69 pounds. But John Schneider of Shawano Wisconsin came up with the win bringing in 60.22 pounds over the 3 day tourney. So congratulations to him. My brother Kevin shot video of the final days weigh-in and you can watch it by clicking here: http://easylink.playstream.com/baydenoccharters/pwt_day_3_saved-1.wvx . If you want to have some great fishing here on Little Bay de Noc, now is the time. Hope to see you soon...
