You wouldn't think it was the second week of October, it was down right HOT all week on the water. Beautiful Days, just a little warm for this time of year. With the heat the inshore waters have also warmed back up into the low nineties, this coupled with lots of outgoing and low tides made for challenging fishing.
We found a few redfish in northern Pine Island Sound working deep holes along bars as the falling tide was pushing food past them. Small live pinfish was the favored bait. Once again this week the snook bite was tough, you could see them blasting schools of tiny baits along the mangroves, but they weren't much interested in anything large enough to stay on a hook.
Our best action came on the deeper grassflats near the Sanibel Causeway. After a little chumming with live shiners we found action with a mix of trout, snapper, ladyfish and mackerel. Not the fast paced action we often get, but steady.
I am beginning to see quite a few pompano skipping my boat weight over the deeper grassflats and unseasonal warm weather has kept plenty of sharks in our waters.
The weather forecast for the upcoming week continues to be hot until weeks end. If our northern friends could just send us down a shot of cooler weather, not cold just a little cooler. We sure could use it!
