The full moon is going down but the fish are stll chewing.Early morning is a critical time to get out and find fish. The water temp is as hot as i can remember in recent years and so has the air temp. Tuesday morning we left the dock at sunrise which now is about 7;00 am.The bait has been scattered since the moon was full but we managed to find some nice Pogeys after throwing the net 2 dozen times. Clearing st. augustine inlet i cruised North 3 or 4 miles where i fished last weekend the area has been holding bait along with some fat tarpon and kings. We started out in 43 feet of water which here is about 1 mile out.The anglers said they would like to catch a few nice kingfish so looking at my fishfinder it was marking good bait and if you have bait around you should catch fish!I put out one live Pogey about 80ft off the left side of my t-top and the other one 40foot on the opposite side. right behind my engine about 12feet went the third rod. When we slow troll these pogeys its important to go slow as your boat can go about 1.5 miles an hour. Looking out over my happily swimming baits and watching the sun creeping up on the horizen i noticed the bait right behind the motor getting nervous.3 secounds later a40# king was 8feet in the air with a 6 inch Pogey clinched firmly in its jaws! After 20 minutes the fish was along side the boat gaffing it and securing it in the fishbox she weighed 38 #s a real nice fish! In the next two hours we were 3 out of 7 on strikes plenty of action and not far from the beach! At the same time a friend of mine was fighting a fat Tarpon about 50yards from us we also saw some Tarpon but we were fully involved with those Kingfish they decided they would come back soon to try there luck with Tarpon!!As long as the water temp stays warm and the tropical storms stay away they will have no problem.Next time we will report on the inshore fishing there is an O Boy Oberto tourny here this weekend hope there are some Redfish left!!Thanks Capt.Dennis
