Yesterday produced another solid day of jigging for Stipers. Early on, it was a complete mad-dog bite, which slowed to a trickle as the day wore on. One again, north of the inlet between the Coast Guard Station and the Bathing Beach was the area to be. Large Ava's still produced best. Tight to the beach was best.

Despite the great catching lately, sadly I am reading the tea leaves which says the season is winding down. Point number 1, we did not catch a single Bluefish yesterday. You do not have to worry about Bass being done as long as Blues are around, because they will leave first. I am afraid, they may have left. Point number 2, more and more of the Stripers are schoolie size. When you start catching 18 inch fish, we are at the tail end of the run. Point number 3, Trolling is not producing as well as jigging. My experience has been that this also points to a season winding down. I hope I am wrong, but I expect at most we probably have 3 weeks left to the Bass run.

Company: First Catch Fishing

Area Reporting: Atlantic Ocean - Barnegat Lighthouse Proximity.

Bio: Born and raised in New Jersey, I developed a passion for fishing as a young child. I remember fishing with my father on my uncle's 13ft. whaler. I was 6 or 7 years old and we were fishing in Barnegat Bay for winter flounder. Boy was it cold... but oh so much fun! Now with over 40 years of local fishing experience I do everything possible to create a great fishing trip. No Experience Necessary. My professional approach is that I am always willing to teach a guest how to improve their angling skills. Whether educating children or beginners I am always patient and courteous. However, when guiding hard-core anglers, I understand that catching fish is job one and will do everything possible to locate the feeding fish. Believe me, I want to catch fish too! In addition to great fun, most of the fish we catch are also great eating. Of course, I suggest you only keep what you can eat.
