I would have to say that summer is definitely here. Today's trip with George and Doug started out on the hot side. Warm temperatures and no wind made for a scorcher of a trip. We finally got some wind in the afternoon making the fishing more pleasant and it also turned the fish on a little. The morning was slow, only landing 4 keepers and several throwbacks. The afternoon was much more active, with our best fishing coming from noon until about 2:30 in the afternoon. We ended up with 10 keepers and over 35 throwbacks, several white bass, 4 sheepshead, 2 pike...and a sucker! We found most of our fish in deeper water from 18 to 25 feet in the morning, but as the wind increased the shallow fish started to bite and we caught lots of fish in 12 feet of water along a sharp weedline. We were trolling Walleyes Choice crawler harnesses with I-62 the hot color by far. This is an awesome color when the mayflies are hatching and the fish are feeding on wigglers. Most of the fish I cleaned today were full of wigglers. We also saw some spent carcasses on the surface indicating there was a hatch last night. We had a surface temperature of 76 degrees by the time we came in at 3 p.m. Overall the bite's been pretty decent lately and the fish are starting to get in their summer patterns. Here's a picture of today's catch. Overall a little smaller fish than we've been getting, but some great eating at the fish fry tonight! Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
