Huli Cat ran down below Pigeon for rockcod today. Big swell on our stern for the trip down. At times, 18 knots, just with the push from the swell. Throttles were only set for 14 knots. Rockcod limits and a fair number of lings, boat average was about 1 ling around, some had limits, some had no lings. One angler had limits of gophers, I never had a single gopher. Pacific Hooker Capt. Mike Velasquez had a very hot rod early, with a mixed rockfish limit before 10AM. One angler limited on lings with only a diamond bar and got his rockfish limit as well. I never had a hit on my diamond bar (before losing it!) and switched over to shrimp flies and started catching fish after a fishless 3 hours of hard fishing. Some anglers used squid for bait, I did not. Water temperature was 51 degrees. The bite was not red hot, but a nice long day on the water and lots of fish to go home with.
