It is incredible how nice a day can be and you achieve your targeted goal as well. Getting up this morning, I was optomistic when the HMB Weather Buoy report was 0 gusting to 0. I had never seen that. We ran out with a good load (for a change) and dropped in for a little get to know your gear session. Then I moved a little bit south and put the anglers in Squidville. I hooked up first. Mike Velasquez followed immediately with a 'Fresh one!'. The anglers did not catch on immediately, but soon got the knack and did well. Ending count was 175 Humboldt squid. We had two coolers that will go to NOAA for science. We will have the usual stomachs for analysis. We saw our first large pod of Grey whales migrating south out about 12 miles. Various dolfin sightings and large assemblages of birds going crazy on bait. Weather absolutely could not have been better. There were even some good story tellers on the boat.
We will try a few more trips this week for squid.
