Well, Gang.
Here we go again. I actually dug out my snow plow blade and ice fishing equipment form the corner of the garage last week. Made sure the 4 wheeler was in running shape. Cleaned everything up and had it ready in anticipation during that week long freeze and winters arrival. Even heard of a few guys getting out on 3 to 4 inches of ice in 4 feet of water off Palmer Rd and near the Pine River. Then (like last year) spring in December returned.
Now, that would have been fine with me, but with all the precepitation and melt off in recent days, the rivers are debris filled and near spring level flood stages again. And that will put the Kibosh to any successful fishing activity for a while, until things stabilize and settle back down. I did manage one trip during that window before the freeze and high water. Went up into the Shiawassee River on a hunch and it paid off. As always, I've enclosed the pictures of a couple of the nicer fish we caught. Your's truly just happened to catch the biggest in both specie categories, so I'm pictured holding them both. Between me and my clients we boated roughly 25 to 30 walleyes and 10 nice smallies.
It's hard to say what or what kind of fishing my next report will have in it. With this weather along with these miserable conditions, it's impossible to say what fishing opportunities will become available next/first. As always, be safe, fish smart and tight lines. Capt. Dan.
