Fishing along Florida's SpaceCoast has remained steady, reports Captain Keith Mixon(www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the past few days, abundant sunshine has helped to offset the cold temperatures when sight fishing for redfish and trout. Several slot size reds have been caught near Titusville in the Indian River in two feet of water or less. When targeting redfish it will be important to have the right approach. Redfish are not normally as aggressive during this time of year. This is due to the colder water temperatures. Fishing lures such as Bass Assassin's "Good Penny 5 inch BLURP Saltwater Shad" should be fished slowly around tailing redfish.
During the colder months of the year, cool water will have trout in search of warmer water temperatures. As the sun warms the waters of the flats, trout will be hiding out in the nearby potholes. Lures such as gold spoons (Nemire's 3/8 oz "Red Ripper") or jerk baits under a popping cork will work well around these pot holes and sandy bottoms adjacent to the grass flats. It will be important to have the right equipment for success. For an awesome fight on light tackle, try using 10 lb. test fluorocarbon leader attached to Power Pro's 10 lb. "Superline", all of which will work well on a 7 foot medium action rod and reel combo.
