In the past week speckled trout have not been able to resist a wide variety of artificial lures or live bait reports Captain Keith Mixon(www.mixinworkwithplay.com). Top water lures such as MirrOLure's (16mr808) Mirromullet with a black back and orange belly have worked well from as early as one hour before sun up to 9:30 am, and again during the last few hours of the day. Also, live bait fish such as mullet or a pinfish under a cork has worked well later in the day until around noon in about four to six feet of water. Redfish have been hitting a wide variety of scented jerk baits along the west shore of the Indian River south of Titusville, Florida. My clients have had several hook ups with redfish when targeting old boat docks and mangrove shorelines. Most of these reds have been within the slot limit of 18 to 27 inches with a few measuring up to 31 inches.
Around Port Canaveral, jack crevalle have provided an explosive bite on top water lures when fished near docks and other structure. These fish which weigh up to twenty pounds can put up an awesome fight on a light tackle spinning combo.
