Inshore Baits Used With Reasons Why!
Captain Ray Crawley of Miss Judy Charters has fished for quite a while. He eats and sleeps fish! The reason being he thinks about them so much is that he is always trying to think of better ways to get their catching attention. So therefore with his consent I have listed a few baits options and the reasons for using them; it's time to take notes!
This is a great time of the year to cast that net and catch your own bait. However, during this time you do catch shrimp, but only a third of them are good bait size. The norm during this time is that the shrimp are too small to use, but as with anything you have options.
Captain Ray suggests keeping the prefect bait size shrimp, which is a "no brain-er!" However, he also suggests keeping some of the even smaller ones, which aren't exactly prefect bait size. When he uses the small baits, he puts two on his small thin tinned Kale hook. He hooks the duo the same as he does the single bait. "Right under the shrimp's horn."
Live shrimp have always traditionally been the bait of choice especially for inshore fishermen. Fish love it, for something so small it has lots of scent to offer, and when it pops it's tail "fish heads are turned!" You know the old saying "two heads are better than one?" Well in this case using two shrimp on the same hook at the same time make "two tails better than one!"
While using the style of double bait hooked up not only did Captain Ray catch spotted sea trout and red fish, but also black drum. Although you might not be targeting the latter of these fish listed it sure is nice to get other fish's attention. The reason being those red fish and spotted sea trout are "finicky at best!"
