The fall Mullet run has started.I fished a couple different areas of New Smyrna Beach the past five days and one area was Ponce Inlet. It is most definite the mullet run has started as school after school of mullet were making there way from the beach through the inlet into the backwaters. On the downside the fishing at the inlet was very slow for us and other fisherman at the inlet. One Redfish and One Mango Snapper was it for us although we did break off two big fish which made their way to the rocks. I spent the next two days fishing inshore and caught plenty of Trout and Redfish. Most of these Redfish were in groups of three and fours and were eager to eat. Nice thing about fishing these smaller groups of fish is they are far less spooky and it is easy to get multiple cast at these smaller groups of Redfish. A Larger Shrimp could not be passed up by these feeding fish. The Trout bite is still going strong.Topwater walking type baits are working best for us at this time.I also had some clients wanting to fish live Pigfish and the action was Red Hot. The Trout bite for us in taking place in 2 to 3 ft of water with plenty of sand holes. The Redfish are on the shallow banks in very skinny water sometimes less the 1 ft deep.
